Skype 2.0 on the iPhone now has FREE 3G Voice Calling. Looks like the free part is only valid till August 2010. Calling Skype-to-Skype has always been free on the desktop client but unfortunately Skype plans on charging for that feature on the iPhone. ( I have a feeling this is the reason the app got approved in the first place, Apple would not want to piss off the network providers now would they ). Anyhoo when you start the new Skype 2.0 you get a friendly message stating:
Free Skype trial
You’ve got until at least August 2010 to make and receive free Skype-to-Skpe calls over your mobile network.
After that, you’ll need a mobile subscription
BTW do you think we might get free Video calling through skype on the iPhone 4G / HD ?
With Skype on your iPhone or iPod touch you can call and instant message anyone else on Skype for free. You can also call landlines and mobiles and send SMS anywhere in the world ( Skype Rates apply ). The app itself is free to download.
